Versatile Pixel Fonts (VPF)
Normally when designing a web site, you are limited to standard fonts like “Arial”, “Verdana” and “Tahoma”. For some texts (e.g. Headings and buttons) you might want to:
use a specific font that is less common
use multiple colours
use effects, display shadows etc
use anti-aliasing
display texts that are hard to read programmatically, e.g. to prevent automatic registrations on web sites
You can of course use an application like PhotoShop to draw a text on an image and add some effects manually. However, that is a quite time consuming work, and if the text that is being displayed is changed dynamically (e.g. due to user input or content of a database), the manual way may not be possible at all.
Using VPF Heading Composer, you only have to do the work once (when creating your complete set of characters and turning them into a VPF font). The VPF Heading generator component will then do the works for you by automatically generate images containing the text string that you supply.
Since the text is displayed as an image that is generated on your web server you do not have to bother about which fonts that are installed on the client computer. The VPF font format also makes it possible to use 32-bit colours (including alpha transparency) in your fonts.
